The mists of the horizon prevented the sunrise from being spectacular. The light was weak and pretty colorless.
D02-1Corralejo-003.jpg
The wind never stops blowing.
D03-1Corralejo-006.jpg
Peter was just as trigger-happy as me. :)
D04-1Corralejo-015.jpg
After ten minutes at the beach we headed to the dunes. I wonder which animal made these tracks. :)
D05-1Corralejo-012.jpg
Patterns in the sand were amazing.
D06-1Corralejo-017.jpg
Hard terrain mixed with the soft dunes.
D07-1Corralejo-026.jpg
A dune.
D08-1Corralejo-035.jpg
One of the largest dunes probably pale in comparison with, let's say, Namib dunes, but I enjoyed the photoshoot anyway.
D09-1Corralejo-036.jpg
Peter at the top of the dune.
D10-1Corralejo-028.jpg
More patterns.
D11-1Corralejo-037.jpg
Dune.
D12-1Corralejo-034.jpg
Did I say I was through with patterns? ;)
D13-1Corralejo-038.jpg
Only rare plants grow in the desert.
D14-1Corralejo-041.jpg
The light was slowly becoming stronger as the sun rose.
D15-1Corralejo-033.jpg
All the time the wind kept sweeping the sand over the dunes (and into us!).
D16-1Corralejo-021.jpg
Yellow dunes.
D17-1Corralejo-042.jpg
Is that a snake trail?
D18-1Corralejo-044.jpg
A small green forest. I mean really small.
D19-1Corralejo-050.jpg
The coastal road.
D20-2ElCotillo-056.jpg
Small village Majanicho in the north. Again, no people anywhere.
D21-2ElCotillo-060.jpg
Yes, there was one person! Miracle! :)
D22-2ElCotillo-092.jpg
The landscape between Corralejo and El Cotillo is just as deserted and barren as most of the island. Surprisingly, there were many stone fences.
D23-2ElCotillo-069.jpg
We found this littly cactus with long thorns.
D24-2ElCotillo-084.jpg
Of course I managed to prick my finger on it. :(
D25-2ElCotillo-075.jpg
Cactus detail.
D26-2ElCotillo-090.jpg
Most roads were lined with this red plant with small leaves.
D27-2ElCotillo-100.jpg
At the end of the El Cotillo area there is Faro del Tostón, a red-and-white striped lighthouse.
D28-2ElCotillo-106.jpg
The lagoons around it offer calm waters in contrast with the raging waves crashing against the outer shore.
D29-2ElCotillo-126.jpg
Faro del Tostón.
D30-2ElCotillo-131.jpg
There is also a museum next to the lighthouse, but it was closed when we were there.
D31-2ElCotillo-139.jpg
Here the sand is white and not yellow as around Corralejo.
D32-2ElCotillo-142-Hpm.jpg
The town of El Cotillo has a steep, almost inaccessible shore.
D33-2ElCotillo-150-Hpm.jpg
Down the cliff the rocks were overgrown with green algae.
D34-2ElCotillo-161.jpg
To the south there is a series of sandy beaches and more cliffs in the distance.
D35-2ElCotillo-163.jpg
This fortress overlooks the steep bay.
D36-2ElCotillo-168.jpg
Windswept sandy beaches strewn with rocks.
D37-2ElCotillo-175.jpg
The beach is ideal for long walks.
D38-2ElCotillo-186.jpg
Cliffs in the distance.
D39-2ElCotillo-181.jpg
The sun was hiding again as it had been almost every day around sunset.
D40-2ElCotillo-192.jpg
We sped back under dark clouds and past some red mountains.
D41-2ElCotillo-195.jpg
It's difficult to stop anywhere along the roads as the shoulders are very high, so the only option is to pull over on a side road.
