Pinkish light in the pre-dawn Krnica valley.
G02-1Krnica-016.jpg
First touches of orange sunlight on the mountain peaks.
G03-1Krnica-049.jpg
Going up on loose scree was strenuous.
G04-1Krnica-053.jpg
Light was quickly changing from orange to yellow and finally white.
G05-1Krnica-058.jpg
At the end of the valley we were faced by the Kriska stena rockface.
G06-1Krnica-066.jpg
Fisheye view of the sky and surrounding mountains.
G07-1Krnica-067.jpg
After breakfast in merciless wind we began the ascent.
G08-1Krnica-073.jpg
At the very end of the valley there was still quite a bit of snow.
G09-2Kriskastena-083.jpg
Climbing - yay!
G10-2Kriskastena-086.jpg
We were gaining altitude fast while the Krnica valley behind us was already bathing in the sun.
G11-2Kriskastena-089.jpg
More climbing.
G12-2Kriskastena-097.jpg
We had gorgeous views of the Razor range across the valley.
G13-2Kriskastena-104.jpg
In the rockface.
G14-2Kriskastena-106.jpg
An iron peg and a blaze.
G15-2Kriskastena-112.jpg
Jaka and his blue helmet.
G16-2Kriskastena-129.jpg
We stopped every few minutes to take photos.
G17-2Kriskastena-133.jpg
Steel rope helped with the climbing.
G18-2Kriskastena-141.jpg
At the top of the rockface.
G19-2Kriskastena-147.jpg
Jaka and Mt. Razor.
G20-3Kriz-148.jpg
We were headed for the Pogacnik hut.
G21-3Kriz-163.jpg
After reaching the trail to the top of Mt. Kriz the view of the Pogacnik hut opened up.
G22-3Kriz-173.jpg
Me on top of Mt. Kriz pointing to Mt. Triglav with its famous north face.
G23-3Kriz-180.jpg
Mt. Kriz, and Mt. Razor and Mt. Prisojnik in the background.
G24-4Kriskipodi-195.jpg
A quick descent to the Pogacnikov dom proved to be long and hot. But the views were great. This is the upper lake of the three (Zgornje Krisko jezero).
G25-4Kriskipodi-217.jpg
We spent a glorious afternoon at the Pogacnik hut enjoying the views.
G26-4Kriskipodi-215.jpg
Benches with the view of the Trenta valley.
G27-4Kriskipodi-223.jpg
Reflection in the middle lake (Srednje Krisko jezero).
G28-4Kriskipodi-233.jpg
We were surrounded by mountains.
G29-4Kriskipodi-261a.jpg
Cheeky young ibex.
G30-4Kriskipodi-284.jpg

G31-4Kriskipodi-288.jpg
Mt. Planja and Mt. Razor in sweet light with the Pogacnik hut.
G32-4Kriskipodi-304.jpg
Another ibex.
G33-4Kriskipodi-313.jpg
Then a bigger ibex came and chased the poor youngster away.
G34-4Kriskipodi-318.jpg
Everybody at the hut enjoyed the wonderful late afternoon light.
G35-4Kriskipodi-350.jpg
A detail.
G36-4Kriskipodi-329-Hpm.jpg
Last sun rays.
G37-4Kriskipodi-368-Hpm.jpg
Orange horizon over the Trenta valley.
G38-4Kriskipodi-373.jpg
End of day.
G39-4Kriskipodi-375.jpg
Prehodavci and Mt. Zelnarica in golden light. Put the cursor over the photo to see the same scene 30 minutes later.
G40-4Kriskipodi-384.jpg
Mt. Bovski Gamsovec was on fire.
G41-4Kriskipodi-402.jpg
Quarter to eight the sun was gone.
G42-4Kriskipodi-381-Hpm.jpg

G46-4Kriskipodi-413.jpg
Last traces of orange in the sky.
G47-4Kriskipodi-416.jpg
Prehodavci.
G48-4Kriskipodi-424-Hpm.jpg
It was getting dark fast.
G49-4Kriskipodi-425.jpg
It was dark - this is a 15s exposure.
G50-4Kriskipodi-428.jpg
The Pogacnik hut before we called it a night and packed our photo gear.
G51-5SedloPlanja-432.jpg
Early morning - Mt. Planja and Mt. Razor in pink.
G52-5SedloPlanja-434.jpg
Looking back towards the hut and Mt. Pihavec.
G53-5SedloPlanja-439.jpg
More scree.
G54-5SedloPlanja-446.jpg
Smooth rocks.
G55-5SedloPlanja-453.jpg
An ibex at breakfast.
G56-5SedloPlanja-458.jpg
Climbing.
G57-5SedloPlanja-462.jpg
Heading towards the Planja saddle.
G58-5SedloPlanja-475.jpg
Just before the saddle.
G59-5SedloPlanja-477.jpg
Looking back we could see Mt. Triglav.
G60-5SedloPlanja-478.jpg
Our hut down below and the nasty scree trail that we had already covered.
G61-5SedloPlanja-493.jpg
First sun rays from behind Mt. Razor.
G62-5SedloPlanja-480.jpg
At the Planja saddle views of the other side opened up: Mt. Jalovec, Mangart and Prisojnik.
G63-5SedloPlanja-497.jpg
At the saddle we had to make a sad, but reasonable decision: due to Jaka's injured knee we would have to skip Razor and head straight down towards Vrsic.
G64-5SedloPlanja-488.jpg
Last look of Mt. Triglav before descening to the other side.
G65-6Razor-502.jpg
The trail goes below the summit and offers great views of Mt. Prisojnik.
G66-6Razor-507.jpg
Jaka was in pain and had to walk slowly.
G67-6Razor-549.jpg
More great views.
G68-6Razor-559.jpg
Finally Jaka caved in and took a bandage for his knee.
G69-6Razor-560.jpg
But there was more climbing ahead of us - going down.
G70-6Razor-561.jpg
Mt. Prisojnik with the Mlinarica saddle.
G71-6Razor-563.jpg
Thus far we had only seen one other hiker - at the Planja saddle. It's great to have the trail all to yourself. :)
G72-6Razor-583-Hpm.jpg
We had lunch below the Razor rockface. Yes, we came down this way. :)
G73-6Razor-588.jpg
Another summit we had to leave out - Mt. Prisojnik. But there will always be other opportunities, so no worries. :)
G74-6Razor-586.jpg
The trail to Vrsic on the southern flanks of Prisojnik. Mt. Bavski Grintavec and Jalovec in the background.
G75-7Prisojnik-601.jpg
Mt. Prisojnik from below.
G76-7Prisojnik-613-Hpm.jpg
Down the grassy slopes.
G77-7Prisojnik-618.jpg
It was scorching hot.
G78-7Prisojnik-625.jpg
Mt. Razor looks very imposing from this stand point.
G79-7Prisojnik-626.jpg
The shady woods didn't offer much relief from the heat because the air was so sultry.
G80-7Prisojnik-630.jpg
More and more puffy clouds above Mt. Bavski Grintavec.
G81-7Prisojnik-635.jpg
Jaka braving his pain.
G82-7Prisojnik-648.jpg
A short ascent before reaching the Gladki rob ridge.
G83-7Prisojnik-652.jpg
Detail of Mt. Razor's face with the route we took.
G84-7Prisojnik-657.jpg
Suddenly the summit was shrouded in clouds.
G85-7Prisojnik-662.jpg
"Tired tower" (Utrujeni stolp) of Mt. Planja.
G86-7Prisojnik-674.jpg
Jaka and I just before the end of the hike.
G87-7Prisojnik-677.jpg
A chunk of the mountain crashed down a couple of years ago.
G88-7Prisojnik-685.jpg
The ideal conclusion of every hike: jota with sausage! :)
