After scouting this lookout the previous day, we returned the following morning, but the weather didn't cooperate much.
G02-1Tindaya-015.jpg
Only sporadic sun rays illuminated the landscape, or in this case, the village of Tindaya.

The Betancuria pass was cloudy and dreary.
G10-2Betancuria-027.jpg
I liked the peak in the distance - what a shape. ;)
G11-2Betancuria-024.jpg
The clouds were gracious enough to grant us one single sun ray. :)

By noon we made it to Ajuy, a coastal village with a black sandy beach and some interesting cliffs.
G15-3Ajuy-071.jpg
Ominous clouds approached from the inland to cover the picturesque village.

The view of the bay and the village.
G17-3Ajuy-076.jpg
There's a footpath on top of the limestone cliffs that leads to some caves.

A lookout on the cliff.
G21-3Ajuy-094.jpg
The walk along the trail is pleasant, but it was hot and humid and windless that day.
G22-3Ajuy-098.jpg
At the end of the trail there are a couple of caves that are accessible to public.

G25-3Ajuy-120.jpg
The weather was clearing up while we were sitting on top of the cliff, enjoyed the views and drank beer. :)

G32-3Ajuy-144.jpg
The island is supposed to be famous for goats, but we only saw a handful the whole week.
G33-3Ajuy-145.jpg
O hai! :)

Our lunch, a sea food platter. It was delicious.
G39-SotaventoO-018.jpg
A cat sat underneath our table the whole time we ate. This love-struck look was intended for Peter. :)

The countryside on the way to La Pared was spectacular again. We stopped the car along the road and climbed a nearby hill to take photos in all four directions.

G49-5Sotavento-174.jpg
Back at the Sotavento beach. First we climbed the hill above the beach.
G50-5Sotavento-177.jpg
Remember these hills?
G51-5Sotavento-189.jpg
From the hill the views were breathtaking.

A panoramic view of the bay.
G54-5Sotavento-198.jpg
A lifeguard's hut on top of the hill. It's a bit far from the beach and I don't know how a lifeguard is supposed to rescue a swimmer in danger from here.
G55-5Sotavento-200.jpg
A sand dune extending from the hill to the beach.

G64-SotaventoO-029.jpg
It was warm enough so we decided to go for a swim.
G65-SotaventoO-030.jpg
My little waterproof Olympus came in handy.
G66-SotaventoO-036.jpg
The beach was deserted.
G67-SotaventoO-043.jpg
The clouds obscured the sun, which is not a good thing when it's windy and you're wet. ;)
G68-SotaventoO-048.jpg
I just stood in the water, letting the waves lap at me and taking photos.
G69-SotaventoO-079.jpg

G70-6Betancuria-246.jpg
On the way back the weather didn't cease to show its dramatic side.

Red glow on a mountain.
G72-6Betancuria-257.jpg
One sun beam illuminated a narrow strip of land.
G73-6Betancuria-259.jpg
At the Betancuria pass again. The clouds had descended almost all the way down to the road.
G74-6Betancuria-268.jpg
Dark and rainy here, but far in the distance the sun was setting.
G75-6Betancuria-269.jpg
The sun behind the clouds shone on the sea.
