The hike began before dawn. It was 6.30 when we set off from the valley. The first sun rays just hit Triglav.
T02-Triglav1-003.jpg
Our goal - Triglav - at sunrise.
T03-Triglav1-010.jpg
Nearby mountains were glowing red.
T04-Triglav1-011.jpg
Soon the climb through the woods began.
T05-Triglav1-013.jpg
Light changed from red to more yellowish ...
T06-Triglav1-027.jpg
... and finally to bright white. This is Triglav's infamous north face.
T07-Triglav1-036.jpg
At the foot of the north face, scree leads towards the bottom of the valley.
T08-Triglav1-043.jpg
Arduous climbing in the scorching sun.
T09-Triglav1-049.jpg
Just before reaching Kredarica hut, we stopped to admire the views. There is Stanic hut in the background.
T10-Triglav1-055.jpg
Our first stop, Kredarica hut. We had lunch, left our rucksacks here and set off for the final hour of climbing to the top.
T11-Triglav1-066.jpg
The whole ascend consists of steep trails and there is a steel rope to help climbers.
T12-Triglav1-073.jpg
Views back to Kredarica and the ridge of Mali Triglav.
T13-Triglav1-076.jpg
Did I mention there were many many people trying to do the same as we did? :)
T14-Triglav1-127.jpg
At the top of Triglav, there is a peculiar steel construction called Aljaž tower.
T15-Triglav1-082b.jpg
Views were partially obscured by mist and smog.
T16-Triglav1-109.jpg
Looking back towards Kredarica and Mt. Rjavina.
T17-Triglav1-113.jpg
There's a tradition for those who climb Triglav for the first time that they have to be flogged with a rope. Since this was Nataša's first ascend, an unknown mountaineer volunteered to take on the task - and gladly so. :)
T18-Triglav1-131.jpg
We took in the views one more time before returning to Kredarica.
T19-Triglav1-136.jpg
The views on the way down were equally stunning as on the way up. Mali Triglav and the ridge of Debela peč and Mrežce in the background.
T20-Triglav1-149.jpg
Precipices on both sides make for lovely views - and vertigo for the faint-hearted.
T21-Triglav1-151.jpg
The trails evens out for a while ...
T22-Triglav1-158.jpg
... before plunging towards Kredarica again.
T23-Triglav1-161.jpg
A couple of climbers and Triglav in the background.
T24-Triglav1-169.jpg
It was so peaceful at sunset.
T25-Triglav1-185.jpg
Even ghosts felt it was safe to make an appearance. :)
T26-Triglav2-03b.jpg
Seeing the sunrise is something you don't want to miss when you're so high up in the mountains.
T27-Triglav2-05.jpg
Quite a few people gathered in front of the hut to observe the morning colors.
T28-Triglav2-11.jpg
I wonder what that man is pointing to?
T29-Triglav2-17.jpg
More and more people came, but the sun was still not up.
T30-Triglav2-21.jpg
And there it is - the first glimpse of the sun.
T31-Triglav2-25.jpg
Some were watching, some were taking photos, some were recording the whole thing.
T32-Triglav2-09.jpg
Kredarica hut before sunrise.
T33-Triglav2-30.jpg
Kredarica hut at sunrise.
T34-Triglav2-32.jpg
Kredarica hut more than an hour after sunrise.
T35-Triglav2-triptih.jpg
It's amazing how the colors change in such short time.
T36-Triglav2-33.jpg
Then it was time to head back to the valley, but not where we came from. For the B&W version place the cursor over the photo.
T37-Triglav2-35.jpg
We went toward Pokljuka to the south.
T38-Triglav2-36.jpg
There were plants with red leaves growing next to the trail.
T39-Triglav2-44.jpg
Careful!
T40-Triglav2-48.jpg
Fall colors were starting to show.
T41-Triglav2-55.jpg
One of the mountain pastures close to Pokljuka.

On the final stretch of our hike - walking the last meters towards the parking lot on Pokljuka where Aco was waiting for us with the car.
